SURVEY ON THE PRESENCE OF THE WOLF IN THE TABURNO CAMPOSAURO PARK

In 2020 the Taburno-Camposauro Regional Park Authority began collecting material concerning the presence of the wolf, in particular photographic sightings in the southern and northern parts of the park. As these were the first reports of the presence of the wolf in the protected area after a long period of absence, a systematic evaluation of the spread of the carnivore’s presence throughout the protected territory became necessary. Therefore, on the basis of previous data and considering the proximity of areas where the presence of the wolf has been ascertained in the past (Matese Regional Park and Partenio Regional Park), the initial hypothesis was that the species might be more widely spread.

A cognitive survey was therefore carried out to achieve the following specific objectives

  1. To confirm the presence of the wolf in the Park, with identification of the areas with the greatest numerical consistency.
  2. To provide the Park Authority with a guide document with operational guidelines for the correct management of the predator’s presence in the protected area.
