THIS YEAR’S FIRST YOUNG KENTISH PLOVERS HATCHED

The breeding season of the Kentish Plovers, Anarhynchus alexandrinus, in Croatia is in full swing. In addition to the pairs on salt pans (Pag, Nin), we have recorded the first successful nesting of a pair on the seashore. At a location that we will not reveal for now because the adults are still raising the chicks, the camera trap recorded the first young (from a clutch of three eggs). The pair continued to incubate for the next two days, but no further hatching occurred. What is particularly interesting about this pair is that they nest in a completely atypical habitat on the karst and rocky pasture itself.
